How many times have you read a post here and thought, "Wow, I thought only I felt that way about (insert spiritual/JW activity here)!"
by Crisis of Conscience ini was inspired by a few different things people said.. one dealt with if you pray(ed) regularly with your husband/wife.
a few people described how awkward they felt in doing it.
i felt like that for the longest time!

Standing up for myself, a lonely stand
by troubled mind ini have learned in my life that i am the only one i can trust to stand up for myself .. many times i wished others would have 'had my back', like when i was seven and my favorite teacher committed wrongful contact with my class....we didn't know the term pedofile back then , and children were not taken serious when they made complaints about teachers .
i wished my mom had been more protective and saved me from some ugly situations .
i knew at 10 yrs of age that wasn't going to be the case .

This is the place to vent. We are all here for you. You are a strong person. Stronger than your husband right now. And I think you are more OUT than him right now. He's still feeling the effects of mind-control. He's getting there.
I'm really sorry you feel that your parents were not supportive of you. I can totally relate to that.
We understand and I think you won't be hearing from the elders anymore.
This is a tough thing you are doing right now. But you are doing it and you will get through it. A year from now you will be enjoying your authentic life.

From the first moment I found JWN I have felt that way because I never talked to anyone about my JW upbringing.

No new insights, but when I consider the social and psychological factors which led me to BEGIN to study
by gubberningbody ini recall the following:.
1. i was dating someone who was having conversations with jw's.. 2. no one i spoke to at work really seemed to know anything, so i decided to go as an observer with my gf.. 3. after observing them for about 6 months it became clear to me that they believed it.. .
if #1 and #2 hadn't taken place i wouldn't have become one.

Interesting points, gubberningbody. That's how my father got involved. He started dating my mother whose whole family was studying. I'm gad to read your insights.

Wecome to the board. Thanks for sharing your story. JWs are kept so busy with meetings, field service and other duties there is no time to help the sick and invalid in the congregation.

Did your congregation have "Talent" Shows?
by lepermessiah ini saw this video on youtube and didnt know if i should laugh or crawl into the fetal position.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abm0t-qhllc&feature=related.

we had several "talent" shows over the years in my original congregation - it was the only annual gathering more nauseating that the meetings.. my friend and i would always bring our walkmans and blare heavy metal in the back - hoping to block out the embarassing crap on the stage.you always had a few older ones get up on stage and slaughter a kingdumb song.

dismissed as bringing too much praise upon the individual.
That would have been the attitude of the elders in the congregation I grew up in also.
But I really can't even imagine anyone suggesting the idea.

upnorth, That's pretty funny. Neither can I.
There was NO FUN in the Commonwealth Avenue Charlotte Congregation. I'm not exagerrating. Of course, I was in there pre-1975. So everything was super serious getting ready for Armaggedon.
